February was a great month for celebrating our Community Kids! Ever since our doors opened at the 6th Avenue Community Center, one of the messages that has remained true is that the Kids simply love having a place to gather with adults who care about spending time with them. As this generation would say, “easy peasy”.
Elementary school aged Community Kids celebrated Valentine’s Day two weeks in a row, just for fun! Together, we read through a book by Wendy Anderson Halperin called “LOVE IS…”, based on the scripture verses in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. The illustrations are quite elaborate depicting rich scenes of what kindness and unkindness can look like, patience and impatience etc. We were so pleased with the genuine interest the Kids took and the insights that they openly shared about each attribute. This led to good discussion about how God loves us and how He helps us to be gentle, self-controlled etc.
These Community Kids are truly learning and living it out. Thank You Lord!
We also read the same book, at our kitchen table, with the Middle schoolers. They too processed new concepts about alternative ways to respond in various life situations. The lesson was deep and meaningful. When they actually engage in true conversation, we know we have struck a chord!
We celebrated two birthdays in February: one Middle schooler’s and one Senior High student’s. Kids sure love being celebrated!
They especially enjoy being given the chance to choose the meal, dessert and activities for the evening, as we acknowledged them for being special. It is a delight to recognize each Kid as valuable and unique. They each know that we love them and that God loves them as well. Truth worthy of celebrating!
1 Corinthians 13:2 declares, “And now these three things remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is Love.”
Thank you for participating in loving these Community Kids through your prayers and support.
