La Cosecha, “The Harvest”
La Cosecha is a home which focuses on helping people recover from addictions. Oti and Gabriela Salvador, along with Hector and Esther Avila, run three locations where they share the great news of Jesus Christ.
The first location is the church “La Cosecha” where Sunday services are held as well as Bible studies on Saturdays. In addition, it is the home of four children who were rescued together with their father after being abandoned on the street, their father struggling with chronic alcoholism.
The second location, “La Cosecha Etla”, is the men’s shelter. This is the place where they have their rehabilitation activities and are taught the Word of God. At this location there is also a farm with rabbits, pigs, chickens and sheep and vegetables are grown. Working there is part of the men’s restoration.
The third location is “Cosecha La Perla”. It includes buildings with iron, mechanic, and carpentry workshops where people who spend more than six months in rehabilitation can participate in learning these trades. Furthermore, people who have completed the rehabilitation period and want to look for work can receive support by having a place to stay until they have the financial stability to be able to rent a place to live.
Woven throughout every part of the ministry are three principles: Love, Mercy and Freedom.
The goal of La Cosecha is four-fold:
- Pursue rehabilitation of young people and adults, men and women, with problems of alcoholism and drug dependence.
- Establish a temporary shelter for those in need
- Support the community in cases of natural disasters
- Educate society in general about the different causes, dependence, effects, and consequences of addictions
