“Rise up, Lord God! Lift up your hand. Do not forget the oppressed…Lord, you have heard the desire of the humble; you will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully, doing justice for the fatherless and the oppressed so that mere humans from the earth may terrify them no more.” (Psalm 10:12, 17-18)
Sri Lanka is in the middle of an economic, political, and humanitarian crisis. Violent protests are threatening lives and destroying livelihoods, while things like food, medicine, fuel, and electricity are in short supply. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their jobs and fallen into poverty.
And it’s not over yet.
“Pray for a good leader and a government,” Pastor Sathees asks. Although the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has stepped down amid protests, his brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa still remains in office as the president of Sri Lanka. What has taken only a few years for the brothers to destroy will take a monumental effort to reverse.
Let’s all join together in prayer that God would provide a way for wise leaders to take over in Sri Lanka, that the people would receive the help they need, and that through it all the name of the Lord would become known.
“It is time for our church to repent,” Pastor Sathees says. “To join together and to pray for deliverance for our country. It is time for the church to do something for the people.” And it starts in the church. “We plan as a church to help our church families.” There are about 154 families in total spread across the 6 different church branches, and many of them have lost their jobs.
In the coming months, Sathees estimates that they will need around $3000 USD a month to help support the pastors, their families, and their congregations. “This is for only medicine and food,” Sathees writes. Whatever food or medicine is available has skyrocketed in price due to massive amounts of inflation and the lack of supply from external sources.
I pray that God would place a burden on the hearts of our brothers and sisters here in the states to reach out and help support Pastor Sathees and the entire Christian church in Sri Lanka as they strive to offer food, support, and hope to the suffering people of their country. If you feel so led, don’t wait to give. You can give securely online here or by mailing a check to TRC Ministries, PO Box 1196, Alexandria, MN 56308. Please include “Sri Lanka” in the memo line.

Thank you for your continued support.
TRC Ministries is partnering with multiple pastors in Sri Lanka in order to bring the bible to these people in their own language through our audio bible ministry. We also see God raising up Christians who are dedicated to bringing the gospel message to their own people. We are working to train them to bring the gospel message and plant churches in their own country.
